[Con] SGT2/A1 Bug: Application doing nothing

I’m still having that ‘error’ from the first test where the installer runs fine and running the program itself results in nothing happening. The process is in the task list for just barely long enough for me to register it’s existence and then it goes away.

Any suggestions for a workaround or ideas what the problem is? I’ve tried admin, all compatibility options and even running it in a sandbox using Avast. Using Vista.

sorry you’re having issues with the test… i know i sound like a broken record, but have you had a chance to scan your application or system logs to see if anything registers?

No its cool, this is what alpha is for. Anyway, I ran Event Viewer and saw no messages related to Stonehearth. There were actually no error messages at all. I know that in theory it should run fine on Vista but has this been tested?

i’m pretty sure we’ve had folks run this on Vista… but radiant would know for sure if results came in from that OS…

Unfortunately, Test 2 didn’t resolve this issue for me, either.

Same behavior, running the test fails after a few seconds with nothing displayed.

I have liked this thread, as requested, and will re-report my system build here for easy tabulation:

  • Windows 8.1 64-bit (fully updated via Windows updates)
  • Intel i5-3570k (quad core 3.4ghz, default settings)
  • 8GB RAM
  • AMD Radeon HD 7870 w/ 2GB running at 1650x1080 w/ latest beta-Catalyst settings (ran non beta
    just prior, no difference)
  • ALL additional drivers fully updated (Ran three different driver updater applications to verify this)
  • Latest BIOS on motherboard (Asrock Z77 Extreme4)
  • I have A LOT of video games, a couple dozen are installed, I’m wondering if one of the installed C++ run time packages from one of the preexisting games is causing this

Whoo! Glad to know I’m not the only one with this problem!

LOL…it doesn’t appear to be common at all but there is a handful of us with this issue. Fingers crossed!

Welp the alpha build is doing this too

Ah there we go. Good to know there are others.

Yup, Alpha is crashing for me, too. Here’s the bug discussion suggested on the front page: http://www.stonehearthguru.com/forums/alpha-beta-testing-nexus/support/50616-bug-crash-on-launch

Wonder if/when we will get some answers on this. Probably low priority but I’d love to try out the alpha!

Just opened up the Horde3D Log and found this:

I’ll have to check that log on mine to see if I get that error message to, well once I get home anyways.

I have the same problem. I had just redeemed my key and tried in Steam and the standalone installer, I have windows 8.1 latest patches and an Nvidia 670. (dyslexic it would seem)

My dump file is here:

welcome aboard @Amerisun!

could you also provide your processor and system memory? were you ever able to run the graphics test(s)?

Steve,
I have a Intel Core i7 4770s 3.10 ghz
32 gigs of installed memory
64 bit Windows 8.1

DXDiag attached:

I cannot get in the game, nothing shows up when I launch it, no splash screen, nothing. I tried through direct install and steam both exhibit same behavior… so if there are graphics tests in the game, no I can’t run them. I have a few machines, laptops and desktops. Seems to launch fine on my Alienware laptop.

your machine is beyond beefy enough to handle SH… and your obviously not contending with onboard Intel graphics… @not_owen_wilson, thoughts?

I scanned the corresponding thread on StonehearthGuru, and didn’t really see any commonalities …

Tricky.

Something very peculiar is going on with our “generate a temporary file name”–it’s failing deep inside a library that generates random numbers using a cryptographically secure technique; for some reason, Windows is not able to generate a secure random number for us. My only guess right now is that this is possibly related to some kind of user account privilege–are you running as administrator? If not, try that–if so, try running as a more restricted user. Stonehearth shouldn’t require any special privileges to run, but something odd is going on here, so we need to try a few things…

I have tried running it as administrator even though my normal user account is also an Administrator. I shallall have to set up one and try it on a limited user account

Just to add more information, I still have this problem even on the last couple patches that have come out… I cannot play this game at all on my main computer… I can on a laptop, but it plays like crap there and I would rather have it playing on the main computer.

Where can I file this bug officially or perhaps give more info? I know someone before said they would “put this in the right hands” but I have seen a few forums for this game, and not sure what it the right place to be placing this content?
